I had intended to publish something new today, but the couple of nearly finished pieces I’d done aren’t quite ready, and after a total of 7 hours and 2 minutes on the road today - heading to Royal North Devon and back, see photo above - I need to sit down and dry off.
But those of you who were in attendance on 4th February might remember the first of a two parter looking at the mysteries of the membership process. These were written as a tongue-in-cheek effort for Sounder, whose golf balls I keep spraying around the south-east of England. Such a good company, and doing things the right way, so given that the strong recommendation to get to Westward Ho! came from a couple of their people, it’s fitting that I re-post part two of the “club-fitting” bit today.
If you missed the first one, the link is here.

P.S. If you are among the many who are sharing this stuff, very many thanks. The love letter to Rye has been viewed a few thousand times!
P.P.S. The play-in bit should really have included, amongst the fictional elements, one of my own experiences…playing in at Deal in 2008-ish, I was paired with a strong County player, off one. I hit such a nervous slice off the 1st tee that it curved way beyond the line of the flagpole, and into the Members’ car park where my host’s vehicle was parked. I never saw that ball again, but to my knowledge no glass was broken, and he kindly checked his own windscreen carefully before we walked to the 2nd…
Another fabulous piece Richard I also enjoyed your golf podcast with Rod Morri and Adrian Logue.
