Thank you for inviting me into a world so foreign to my own (mostly public golf in USA) and so similar in trying to adjust to a brave new world. Loved the stories of “not having lunched appropriately” and "while others walked around with a plastic face shield as if welding could take place anytime, unannounced."

It's nice to be returning to normal. We were going to tour AU/NZ in fall 2020 for three weeks and then something happened before we began committing to reservations. We made reservations that could be cancelled for spring 2022 but while AU was "open" had 10 day quarantines and NZ was declaring they would be.

I'm currently in Queenstown, on a six week tour. We started in Sydney then drove down to Melbourne (SAB, Sandy Links, Yarra Yarra, The Dunes (rain out)) and just played Jack's Point. Onto Chisholm Links and Titirangi before heading to King Island and Tasmania and then Melbourne's Bellarine Peninsula.

I'm not an expert, but I love links golf, and have to believe Melbourne, King Island, Tasmania (after 7mile and now 5mile open) and of course New Zealand are well worth the long trip. But our next big adventure will be to Scotland, Ireland and England so we can test the theory and decide before we head to Bandon, StreamSong or Cabot.

A very fine and evocative read for all who “get it”, thank you Richard.

One pedantic point, Kummel is based on caraway seed, nor is it presently available save at prescient clubs with gargantuan stock.

The sharing of time with old friends, and those yet to become friends, is something special to good clubs.

What a perfectly written piece. The "slight surprise over the fact that this board competition was being played off the modest yellow tees" is a perfect line of understatement that encapsulates so much about these type of competitions. Those who have experienced them will know exactly what you are talking about.
