Great work, as always, but for the record Watson hit 8 iron at Turnberry (if he'd had Alfie on the bag on that occasion as in '77 the masterful bagsman would have talked him into 9!).

The head to head between Seve and Watson down the stretch at St Andrews in 1984, was a truly memorable Open, held on an Old Course of unadulterated baked fairways, with fast and running links golf. The final climax of Seve's final putt on 18, with iconic celebration, whilst Watson was humbled behind the back of the road hole green on 17
