I had been fortunate enough to have read Tom Coyne's excellent "A Course Called Ireland", so Cruit was on my itinerary before arriving in Ireland. I was expecting something mystical and it did not disappoint. I played as a single and it was a delightful experience, despite not being able to remember the tips I had told myself to remember when I played my second loop. Thanks for bringing it all back.

Just wondering if you have ever had the pleasure of playing the 27 holes at Carne. Of the 13 courses that I played along the Wild Atlantic Way, Carne was the furthest south as well as my favorite place. Over two days, I played 37 holes. An odd number, I know, but even more remarkable is the fact that of the 19 holes played the first day, I never did play the first hole. I was a single and the first one off, so I had no one to follow and no way to know that the very difficult but fantastic par 5 first hole was something that I had concocted. I had found the correct first tee but had hit to the 13th fairway and proceeded from there. It's a complicated story, especially if you have not yet been there. The gents in the pro shop after my round said that this a new one, so I have that going for me.
Thank you, Richard! Yes, I had the enormous pleasure of seeing Carne last summer, and it was wonderful! It needs its own category, I think. Unlike any other piece of land that ever wore flags...it felt more like Lord of the Rings than golf, particularly the swing up into the mountains on the Wild Atlantic routing. Thank you for reminding me of it! Fabulous place...

PS - thanks for the pronunciation advice - I have told everyone I am going to "Cruet" Island, as in set - who remembers those.
