Played St Patricks for the first time in mid September, twice, on a challenging week end (45mph south westerly and ‘not dry’). Despite the conditions, very much appreciated the majesty of the layout - and will not forget coming up just short (of the green, not the flag!) with a cleanly struck 4 iron off the forward tee on the 120 yard 15th…..very happy with my bogey!
Just arrived now at Barnbougle….so more 'Doak treats' to look forward to this week - hopefully the breeze (35mph today) will have abated by then!
Lovely article - I think this place deserves this sort of 'unorthodox' review. I'm terrible at remembering holes, and this isn't an exception, but I think about the feeling of playing at St Patrick's frequently. Westward Ho! is a great comparison in this regard. Pure is the perfect word!
I learn something and also find something I need to delve into to every time I read one of your pieces. I maybe need to read Atomic Habits to make better use of my time for my ever growing bucket list.

Keen to hear what Barnbougle was like. The photos I've seen are as mesmerising as those of Rosapenna...

Thank you! Love Westward Ho! in the same, pure way!
