I played Huntercombe for the first time four years ago and it is now a regular visit. The Green complexes are divine, almost literally. A wonderful club and sublime atmosphere.
Yes, fabulous greens aren't they? Nothing seems contrived, yet the contours are wild. The sense I got was that Willie Park Jr felt he could really "let go" at Huntercombe, as he was less impeded by outside influence than at Sunningdale, whose Old Course was laid out around the same sort of time. Sunningdale Old is terrific as it is, but imagine these sort of green sites over there...
