"As you turn off the engine and walk up the gravel path, it is like passing through some secret portal into a different realm, where golf is the central point of life, and you are invited to fall under some magnificent spell." About a million years ago I attended a Shivas Irons Society event at Chicago Golf Club, one of the birthplaces of American golf. After exiting my car, and excitedly approaching the ancient clubhouse, I reached the covered walkway connecting the clubhouse and the pro shop. I suddenly felt as if I had stepped back in time, and almost expected to see C.B. McDonald holding court on a bench in front of a locker. A truly magical place, similar I'm fairly certain to the experience at Rye.

I feel like 95% of golfers are oblivious to the layers this game contains, from the mystical exploration of mastery that Shivas spoke of to the ghosts of the mischievous architects, immortal through their legacy. What a game...
