This article reminds me of a visit to the wonderful Royal Birkdale in December 2020. We were Sunday lunching after golf and naturally for a Royal club a jacket and tie was required. The stumbling block was the changing rooms were closed due to the dreaded pandemic, so members arriving for luncheon were greeted in the car park by 10 members of a fellow Royal club in their underpants changing into formal attire.
Brilliant. What next? An inverse correlation between shower accoutrement and course quality? I’ve always thought that the smaller and less obvious the signage to the club is, the more rewarding it is to find too!
